Down in Victoria the Estate Agents Council is talking about the possibility of allowing lawyers, accountants, and other professionals to become pseudo-estate agents. The Victorian Government wants to boost competition within the real estate industry, but the Real Estate Institute of Victoria doesn’t like the idea:
“Given that there are approximately 15,000 estate agents in Victoria, competition is already extremely high. That applies to all sectors of real estate.”
– REIV CEO Enzo Raimondo
However, the Law Insitute of Victoria reckons the legal eagles won’t be too interested in doing Saturday morning auctions, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Victoria feel that only a handful of their 9700 members might consider it. I’m not sure it would be such a good idea either. Estate agents don’t have a great reputation anyway … can you imagine what it would be like dealing with a lawyer who’s doing the real estate agent thing? And could an accountant really talk someone into spending more on a home? “Sir, given your current situation, you should probably stop bidding at $460,000. Please, don’t try and push me higher than that.”
Interesting post last year about the potential deregulation of the real estate industry. I am proud to say that our agency PropertyNow is leading the charge in selling in a refreshing new way.
We give people choice and unlike the overwhelming majority of agencies we are not anti private sellers.
In fact quite the opposite we structure most of our services around helping people to sell their home without an agent.
I’d like to invite the owner of this blog over to our site to review our services and in particular to tell us how to further improve.
Thanks on a great blog. Consumers need unbiased realestate news and that seems to be your forte.
Just an update on the Feb 6th blog above.
It’s September and our real estate private sale business now has 134 clients in every state in Australia.
Readers of this blog will also be pleased to know that last week we reintroduced a completely free listing service.
Also any person who uses our paid full service and mentions seeing us on realestatedaily blog will receive a twenty percent discount. In this service we place our clients on two of the largest real estate portals in the country.
