They had been told we were coming … they’ve had the house on the market for over a month … but when we got there yesterday it was a mess. I mean, it wasn’t the worst place I’ve ever done, but it was pretty bad. There was rubbish and rotting food sitting in plastic bags in the kitchen sink (the rubbish bin under the sink was full, you see). Everything was dirty. The bed in the massive master bedroom wasn’t made, and there was an almost finished 2 litre bottle of milk on the bedside table. I should have taken a photo to show you just how bad it was … maybe next time.
So why would someone leave their home in such a state when they’re trying to sell it? I can only assume that they are blind to their own messiness. They just can’t see it, since that’s how they live their lives. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But when you’re trying to get someone else to pay over half a million bucks, it is so much more difficult to sell a dirty house, and will probably lead to a lower sale price.
